Health Alliance Plan and MRPA Partner for a Healthier Michigan

Dearborn, Mich. – Jan. 29. 2009 – Health Alliance Plan (HAP) and the Michigan Recreation and Park Association have joined forces to help park professionals statewide create a healthier Michigan. HAP will sponsor three sessions at the MRPA Annual Conference and Trade Show, training MRPA members to prevent stress, as well as childhood injuries and obesity in Michigan.

"Park and Recreation professionals provide essential services to Michigan residents," said Dennis Schornack, executive director of MRPA. "By creating accessible and effective programming, our members can get residents outdoors and active, reducing many of the health concerns that challenge our state today."

Sessions will take place Tuesday, Feb. 3 and Thursday, Feb. 5 at the MRPA Annual Conference and Trade Show in Dearborn. More than 400 park professionals, recreation facility operators and other interested parties will attend the conference.

Former National Park Service Director Fran Mainella will provide additional insight into the role parks and recreation play in the health of today's youth. An expert on the "No Child Left Inside" movement, Mainella will build on the educational foundation of the HAP sessions during her featured event on Feb. 5.

The MRPA Annual Conference and Trade Show runs Feb. 3-6 at the Dearborn Hyatt Regency in Dearborn, Michigan. For more information regarding the conference or HAP-sponsored sessions, visit www.mrpaconference.blogspot.com. MRPA is a statewide non-profit association of more than 2,000 professionals dedicated to creating community through people, parks and programs. Headquartered in Detroit, HAP is a nonprofit, Michigan-based health plan serving more than 500,000 members and 2,000 companies.
