America On the Move™

A national initiative launched in July 2003 that provides messages to counter our obesity crisis by supporting adults and children in eating better and exercising more. The website gives access to fun goal-setting, tracking, and logging tools for physical activity. You can order a step counter, sign up for daily health tips and a bimonthly health e-newsletter, monitor your physical activity progress on a trail map, and more. Individuals can also participate as part of a group.

Prevention and awareness materials are available to the general public on early detection, tobacco and other topics. Learn about their Active For Life Worksite Physical Activity Program, a 10-week program encouraging employees to be more active on a regular basis by setting individual goals and forming teams for motivation and support.

ADA serves the public by promoting optimal nutrition, health and well-being. They provide recipes, health tips, fact sheets and other publications.

American Heart Association

Accurate information on heart disease and stroke. Includes a family health section with information on nutrition and exercise, programs and books. Includes a personalized health management program to help employees' lower risk of heart attack and stroke. The program is free and is tailored to individual needs.

This flexible, effective, affordable health promotion program can be conducted in any size business and can be tailored to meet the user's needs. With it, worksite coordinators can conduct health promotion activities that inspire employees and their families to lower their risk of heart disease and stroke. The goal of Heart At Work is to give employees the information, motivation and support they need to make healthy, beneficial and lasting lifestyle choices. The complete Heart At Work program includes a coordinator's guide and over 30 "ready-to-go" activities.

Cost Benefit Analysis and Report 1979-2001

The goal of this report is to justify, initiate or focus wellness programs to meet the corporate bottom line. The Health Management Research Center (HMRC) with in the University of Michigan Division of Kinesiology, conducts original research on worksite wellness issues. HMRC experts also act as on-site consultants with employers. This report includes published studies about cost-effectiveness of health promotion programs over the last twenty years, and summaries of more than five hundred articles and studies. This report shows that the money spent on keeping the workforce healthy is money very well spent.

Motown in Motion

Motown in Motion is a region-wide initiative that promotes the importance of physical activity in achieving a healthy lifestyle and encourages residents in southeastern Michigan to increase their daily level of physical activity to 30 minutes a day. The program is available to individuals and worksites. It asks participants to sign a pledge card to show their commitment to physical activity; sample program ideas are also available.

Movement for Life

Movement For Life is a citywide health initiative launched by Mayor Kwame M. Kilpatrick and the City of Detroit to help Detroiters develop healthier lifestyles. Under the leadership of the Detroit Department of Health and Wellness Promotion, Movement For Life is a yearlong initiative that will educate, motivate and inform Detroiters about healthy living. Over the course of the year (April 2004 to April 2005), the initiative will focus on four key areas: preventive healthcare (April-June), physical activity (July-September), nutrition (October-December), sleep and stress reduction (January-March).
