So, You're Ready To Quit!

So you're ready to quit! Tips for getting ready to quit.

  • Ask yourself, "Do I really need this cigarette?"
    Cut out the ones that you do not feel a strong need to smoke.
  • Take fewer puffs each time you smoke.
  • When you have an urge to smoke or use tobacco, wait 5 minutes; the urge may go away.
  • Make a list of things you can do instead of smoking.
  • Learn from the last time you tried to quit. What worked? What didn't work?
  • Find a friend who can help.
  • Set a quit date.
  • Throw away your cigarettes, ashtrays, and lighters the night before your quit date.
  • Plan how you will make it through your first day.
  • Plan to give yourself a reward for not smoking or using tobacco.
  • Quit!
