Boots for Children Gives the Gift of Warm Feet

Top Boots for Children Donor
Anita Moliterno and Valerie Welch of HAP's East Central region office with top Boots for Children donor Ron Graham of Valley United Insurance

In 2011, with the help of community partners throughout Bay, Genesee, Huron, Lapeer, Saginaw and St. Clair counties, Health Alliance Plan’s East Central office collected more than 680 pairs of new winter boots ($15,000 estimated value) and distributed them to families served by Carriage Town Ministries of Flint, City Rescue Mission of Saginaw, Flint Eastside Mission, Good Samaritan Rescue Mission in Bay City, Love INC of Greater Lapeer and Pathway Shelter in Port Huron.

This year, HAP's Annual Boot Drive has teamed up with Priority Children to help homeless children in Genesee, Bay, Lapeer, Saginaw and St. Clair counties. New winter boots in children's sizes as well as monetary donations of gift cards for local retail stores will be accepted. Checks should be made payable to "Priority Children" with the notation "Boots for Children".

Community Partners

HAP wishes to thank all of the individuals and businesses that contributed to the boot drive, and in particular, the following community partners who went above and beyond to support the program in 2011:

  • Top boot collectors Ron Graham, licensed insurance agent at Valley United Insurance of Bay City and Bay Area Chamber of Commerce, who collected a total of 116 pairs;

  • Top cash sponsor Michigan Sugar Company of Bay City, who donated $1,000;

  • Tom Matzmarowski, assistant store manager, and his team at Kohl's in Grand Blanc, who provided a significant discount on boots purchased for Boots for Children; and

  • Meijer stores in Fort Gratiot, Lapeer, Davison and Flint (Hill Road location) for their generous cash donations.
